An Energy Survey in Central London that led to real energy savings

A package of non-disruptive measures to a semi-detached property in London has improved comfort and warmth levels to a remarkable level.

Our involvement with this project started with one of our Home Energy Surveys, a two- to three-hour visit of the home which is followed up by a detailed report. Our report identified a number of opportunities to improve both the comfort and energy efficiency of the property. The main options included fitting insulation internally and improving the glazing. Reducing drafts and fitting LED lights were also suggested as quick wins.

The client was not intending to undertake any major refurbishment in the near future, so selected a package of improvement measures which were not hugely disruptive; triple-glazed windows, insulation in the roof and loft areas, draught proofing and replacement LED lighting. Enhabit managed the entire package of works, with a dedicated installation team completing the job in just over a week.

The client noticed an immediate effect on the comfort levels within the property. All the rooms were noticeably warmer with the triple-glazed windows providing exceptional levels of thermal comfort. In the upstairs rooms, the effect was even more noticeable with the previously uninsulated loft and pitched roof zones now working effectively to retain heat. The rear of the property is close to a train line and the acoustic benefits of triple-glazing were also immediately apparent – external noise simply disappeared.

Overall, this was a relatively small project which nevertheless resulted in a significant increase in levels of comfort for the client whilst also reducing energy use by some margin.
